Dirt Junkies 2015: Round 3 | Rocketworld

4-5th July 2015: Rocketworld, Somerset – The third and final round of the 2015 Dirt Junkies series went down at Rocketworld MX Park in Somerset on July 5th. Track owner Chris ‘Rocket’ Rose built one of the sickest courses the UK has ever seen for the event with the perfect mix of ramp and dirt hits and all the riders had an absolute blast ripping it up!

A day of course testing on the brand new FMX set-up on Saturday left everyone in high spirits, and eager for the contest to get underway on Sunday. In true English tradition however, strong winds on Sunday caused havoc, and made riding conditions difficult to say the least. The Amateur qualifying jams would be the last of the sessions to be uninterrupted by the wind, and as the wind speeds increased, the decision was made to cancel the Amateur finals and the Pro contest. For the Amateur class the results from qualifying would act as the final results. The cancelling of the contests didn’t dampen spirits however, and everyone just enjoyed riding some chilled jam sessions throughout the afternoon.

The amateur contest was won convincingly by Cornwall’s Wayne Jacobs. Wayne was simply riding on another level all weekend. He was the first rider to test the new jumps and the last rider off the course at the end of the day. His huge KOD’s and new grab combo’s made his top spot an easy choice for the judges. The two youngest riders in the field, Matt Coombs and Brody Knibbs also both put in awesome rides, and showed huge amounts of potential for a new generation of freestyle motocross riders in the UK.

Dirt Junkies organisers said “Although we had difficulties with wind at all three rounds, we felt that overall the Dirt Junkies series was a big success. We’ve seen new FMX riders in the UK turn some heads, and just seeing everyone get together and having fun jumping their dirt bikes made it all worthwhile. 2015 has given us a huge platform to build up the series for next year, and we have learned a lot about running an FMX contest. We would like to take this opportunity to thanks all our supporters: DC Shoes, Red Bull, FreestyleXtreme, Night of the Jumps and Dickies. We will be back next year bigger and better!”
